A national monument, Fort Saint-André was built to assert the power of the kingdom of France against the papacy in Avignon. It is a significant example of 14th-century French military architecture.
Overlooking the whole town, with a unique panorama over the Rhône valley and Provence, it's an exceptional site.
Fort Saint-André's strategic position allows you to enjoy a 360° panoramic view of Mont Ventoux, the Rhône valley, Avignon and the Alpilles from its covered walkway. The visit includes the Romanesque chapel of Notre-Dame de Belvezet, and the large defensive enclosure with the Tour des Masques and twin towers.
