The largest Gothic palace
Residence of the popes in the 14th century and listed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site, it is the largest building from the Middle Ages (15,000 square metres, equivalent to the volume of four Gothic cathedrals). It houses more than 25 rooms, including the pope’s private apartments and fabulous wall decorations by Italian artist Matteo Giovannetti.
