Description
Thierry Malandain, who has led the Ballet Biarritz since 1998, is a prolific choreographer who infuses each of his creations with a resolutely modern style imbued with humanity. Two pieces are being presented: *The Firebird* and *Don Quixote*.
*L’Amour sorcier* is set among the Gypsies of Andalusia, in an atmosphere of superstition. Candelas loves Carmelo, but the jealous ghost of her former fiancé haunts her. Inspired by rituals in which fire purifies and protects, the work celebrates the cycle of life and death.
With *Don Quixote*, Martin Harriague does not retell the story but explores its energy: the power of dreams and the struggle—both absurd and sublime—against reality; a struggle for an ideal world. The original music is by Gabriel Majou, a French composer who blends contemporary composition with electronic textures.
