Description
During the weeks before Christmas and New Year's, Avignon puts its finest foot forward and sparkles every day!
In the weeks leading up to Christmas and New Year’s, the city is decked out in lights for a festive season filled with warmth and cheer.
From November 28, 2026, to January 3, 2027, Avignon celebrates Christmas throughout the city with a program packed with activities, family events, holiday lights, and traditions.
This year marks, above all, the highly anticipated return of the Christmas market at Place de l’Horloge. From November 28, 2026, to January 2, 2027, the market stalls will be set up in the heart of the historic center, at the foot of City Hall and the Opera House. Artisans, merchants, producers, and food vendors will welcome visitors throughout the holiday season.
The market is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
The festivities kick off on November 28 with the city’s light show at 6 p.m. Avignon then dons its Christmas decorations and, for several weeks, offers numerous events in neighborhoods and at municipal venues.
Among the highlights, the Palais des Glaces invites young and old alike to enjoy its ice rink, while Place Pie comes alive with “Place Pie en folie.” Provençal traditions are also in the spotlight, as are the events organized in Montfavet.
Libraries, museums, the Halles, and various cultural venues throughout the city are also participating in the program with workshops, shows, gatherings, and events designed especially for families and children.
On Saturday, December 19, at 5:30 p.m., a grand Christmas parade will also wind its way through the city center.
To make getting around easier during the holidays, a free mini-train will run through the city center, connecting visitors to the various event sites.
Everything you need for a wonderful holiday season. Experience the magic of Christmas in Avignon!
