Historic site and monument, 19th C in Avignon

  • The Rue des Teinturiers has been ranked since 1932, in the category 'natural monuments, sites of artistic, historical, scientific, legendary or picturesque character'.

  • In 1817, there were 23 water wheels churning here to provide power to the printed fabric industry. Silk was made here and leather was tanned.
    Today, there remain 4 wheels which continue to churn along the river.
