A public washing well was mentioned for the first time in 1782, with the report of a plan for the construction of a public washing place. However, actual proof of the existence of an open washing well comes in 1832. A roof space was approved by the Prefect in 1866. Another document from 1865 states that the old basin would not be re-used as is, but was placed in a vertical position for alignment on the Chemin d’Entraigues. This latest document refers to the washing well which was built between 1866 and 1868. As of 1890, the washing well had a hydraulic mechanism that supplied the water tank on top of the village. It was rehabilitated in 1989, it is now a dynamic exhibition space and the tourism information bureau for Grand Avignon.
