Just an hour from the legendary Géant de Provence and at the crossroads of two international cycle routes, Avignon is the ideal destination for discovering Provence by bike. On your bikes, we’ll take you on a cycling tour of the City of the Popes!

The Accueil vélo brand

Since January 2020, the Tourist Offices of Avignon and Greater Avignon – located on the ViaRhôna itinerary – have been awarded the Accueil Vélo label. We offer a warm welcome to our cycling tourists and provide a number of special services free of charge!

We provide a free repair kit and pump in the Tourist Office. We’ll recharge your e-bike batteries free of charge – just ask.* We welcome any comments and suggestions you may have about our services for cycle tourists and the infrastructure in and around Avignon, so that we can improve our welcome for cycle tourists around Avignon.

Avignon, the former city of the Popes and capital of the Côtes du Rhône, is an essential stop-off point on the ViaRhôna before reaching the sea. The city has an exceptional historic centre, with a number of sites listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the famous Palais des Papes and Pont d’Avignon.

Our advisors will give you all the information and advice you need to make the most of your trip: practical information, itineraries, cycle routes, weather forecasts, train and coach timetables…. We’ll point you in the direction of establishments with the Accueil Vélo label in Greater Avignon: accommodation, rentals and repairs, sites and museums, etc.

A secure, free bicycle parking area (13 spaces) is available in the car park of the Palais des Papes.

▶ Villeneuve-lez-Avignon // Via Rhôna + Véloroute des Chartreaux (approx. 4 km)

▶ Sorgues // Via Rhôna + Voie des Papes (approx. 18 km route) ➔ return possible by TER with the bike on the train

▶ Caderousse // Via Rhôna (approx. 27km route) ➔ return possible with bike: ZOU 922 bus to Sorgues and then TER train.

▶ Châteauneuf du Pape // ViaRhôna + shared route (approx. 20 km route) ➔ return possible with the bike: ZOU 922 bus to Sorgues and then TER train

▶ Orange // Via Rhôna + Via venaissia on shared track (approx. 45km route) ➔ possible return by TER with the bike on the train

▶ Pont du Gard // ViaRhôna green route and shared route + Pont du Gard green route (approx. 35km route) ➔ return possible by bus LIO 115 with bike in hold

▶ Tarascon // ViaRhôna greenway and shared route (approx. 36km route) ➔ possible return by TER with bike on the train
