This concert honors Robert Schumann, a key figure of German Romanticism, through three of his major works for strings and piano.
The First Sonata for violin and piano, transcribed here for cello, reveals a poignant expressiveness, while the Third Sonata for violin and piano, composed in his last years, reflects all the emotional depth of a tormented composer. Finally, the Second Trio for piano, violin and cello is a fitting addition to the program.
