This program pays tribute to two major female figures in the Gospels: Mary, mother of Jesus, and Mary Magdalene.
The first part of the concert features some of the finest Italian and Spanish polyphony of the Renaissance, including Alonso Lobo's sublime Versa est in luctum, Antonio Lotti's Crucifixus and Allegri's sumptuous Miserere.
After Tomás Luis de Victoria's great Missa Salve Regina for 8 voices, spatialized polyphony for 4, 6 and 8 voices alternates with beautiful Gregorian antiphons.
