The oldest pawnshop in France (17th century), the archives of the City of Avignon, and the objects from the period the building served as a silk works.
Established since 1987 in the old Notre-Dame de Lorette chapel, built in the 18th century on the plans of Avignon architect Jean-Baptiste Franque. Three separate spaces retrace the history of Mont-de-Piété, created in 1610 and that of the Condition des soies, created in 1801, using objects and documents. The addition, in 2008 of a third space, 'Espace Archives' (4 display cases on either side of the entrance) evokes the role and functioning of the Archives service 'on a daily basis' since 1986 This museum invites you to go back in time, from the 17th to the 21st century through the objects, documents and works that bear witness to the three successive activities of this place by the same, highly heritage.
