Montmajour Abbey

The site particularly fascinated Van Gogh (1853-1890), who made numerous drawings there in 1888-1889. "Ascension", the work created by Alain Kirili (b. 1946) for the abbey's choir, pays tribute to his use of "thick" color. Montmajour Abbey stands at the heart of the Arles region, on a rocky peak overlooking the Crau plain.
