The Museum takes an audacious and original cultural approach to sacred art. The Maison des Chevaliers, or House of Knights, is a magnificent setting for these collections of sacred art. The house has its original decoration and painted ceilings from the 14th and 15th centuries and is a Historical Monument.

See the Royal Court of Justice that was in the building in the 14th century, with its beautiful proportions. See the two ceremonial rooms from the 15th century with their magnificent ceilings and sumptuous décor that is amazingly modern. The ceilings show coats of arms, exotic animals, fantastic beasts and scenes of daily life from the Middle Ages. An amazing panorama that has been perfectly preserved and is a wonder to see.
A VERY SECULAR MUSEUM
What is the connection between a Romanesque Madonna, a statue of a soldier from a Chinese tomb, an African mask and an icon from Crete? This museum of Sacred Art in county Gard is not exactly a Fine Arts Museum, it has gathered objects we are not accustomed to seeing grouped together. The meaning of these works, and their connection, can be somewhat obscure at first ... This secular museum of sacred art proposes an audacious and original cultural approach to sacred art and gives viewers new insight to the meaning of the works in its collection.
