In 2026, the Palais des Papes will welcome a major new artistic proposal from Macha Makeïeff, who will invest the premises with an original creation reflecting her singular and highly personal universe.
"LES CHOSES DIVINES - Inventaire fantaisiste" transforms the fortress into a theatrical and poetic itinerary, imagined as an exquisite cadaver of "heroic debris", chimeras and "astonished remains" rescued from oblivion.
Huts, cubbyholes, mystical houses, reconstructed sets and whimsical architectures will bring together everyday objects and selected works from collections in the South of France for a poetic journey, "fragile as a dream", celebrating what theater leaves behind.
An immersive journey through the heart of the Palais des Papes, inviting visitors to travel from the everyday to the sacred, as they pass through a series of spaces designed as "houses" filled with works, costumes and theatrical objects.
Major artists and up-and-coming talents interact in a poetic and spectacular staging. We wander freely, from surprise to surprise, as if in a 360° live show. A visual and sensitive experience that transforms the monument into a vast imaginary theater.
IH: part of the exhibition is accessible to PRMs, by appointment. Please contact the Tourist Office: 04 32 74 32 74 or by e-mail: officetourisme@avignon-tourisme.com
