The audio cassette: an industrial and artistic adventure. Practical and inexpensive, the audio cassette embodies the democratization of recording and the triumph of nomadic listening. In this talk, at a time when this emblematic object is celebrating its sixtieth birthday and making an unexpected comeback, we'll tell its story, focusing on the evolution of music consumption and our relationship with the sound archive. We'll also talk about the economic, social and even geopolitical role that cassettes have played. Finally, we'll describe its importance in the evolution of today's music, from rap to alternative rock to the experimental scene, illustrated by a rich iconography and numerous testimonials.
