Ever since the creation of the Festival d’Avignon by Jean Vilar, theatre has become second nature for this area, summer and winter alike! And stage passion extends far beyond the rampart walls…

July of course means a very special, unique effervescence. But in Avignon, theatre goes on all year long. There are special events such as the Fest’hiver in February, organised by Scènes d’Avignon, there are productions performed year-round by established and emerging theatres, and festivals around Avignon such as Morières de Rire and Roquemaure de Rire. Here, the trois coups announcing the rise of the curtain are heard 12 months a year!
