A native of Avignon and very attached to my city, I've been working at the Tourist Office for the past fifteen years. Passionate about culture and food, I love to share my tips, favorites and discoveries with you!

The Pont d'Avignon

The Pont Saint-Bénezet or the mythical Pont d’Avignon, world-famous for its famous song.

Stroll across the four remaining arches and immerse yourself in the city’s medieval history, while enjoying a unique panorama of the river, the ramparts and the Palais des Papes.

A visit that will delight young and old alike! (Tour time: approx. 40 mins)

Place du Palais

The magnificent Place du Palais des Papes, surrounded by a prestigious heritage:

the Hôtel Calvet de la Palun (now the Carré du Palais), the Hôtel des Monnaies, the Petit Palais Museum – the Louvre in Avignon, Notre-Dame des Doms Cathedral and the famous Palais des Papes, the largest Gothic palace in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Doms garden

For a relaxing and refreshing break, climb up to the Rocher des Doms garden (reopening late February-early March 2026).

This English-style garden, set on the rock overlooking the Palais des Papes, rises 30 metres above the Rhône. A veritable showcase of greenery, it offers breathtaking views of the old town, monuments and landscapes from the Rhône plain to Mont Ventoux.

Les Halles d'Avignon

Feeling peckish? Take a diversion to Les Halles and enjoy a gourmet break.

In this large covered market, open from Tuesday to Sunday mornings, you’ll find forty or so shopkeepers, true ambassadors of taste, quality and local produce.

Rue des Teinturiers

To round off your visit, take a stroll along Rue des Teinturiers.

Nicknamed the “rue des roues” because of the paddlewheels that line the Sorgue canal, it is one of the most emblematic and picturesque streets in the town centre.

In just 2 hours, Avignon reveals itself through its emblematic monuments, charming streets and art of living. It’s an ideal way to discover the city for the first time, and makes you want to stay longer!

Afraid of forgetting something?

Guided tour: Avignon at a glance

There’s also a guided tour called “Avignon in the blink of an eye”, which gives you an overview of the city’s history and highlights in just 1? hours, watch in hand!

The Popes' Palace

And if you’re desperate to visit the Palais des Papes, the tour lasts around 1h30-2h.

You can admire the splendid frescoes by Matteo Giovannetti and walk through the Cour d’Honneur, the main venue for the Avignon Festival in July.
