I have been working at the Tourist Office for 12 years. I love my city. It is where my mother, myself and my children were born. I have lived in other places and countries, but like a boomerang, I always came back here. Avignon is a city that I never tire of exploring and that feels like part of my family.

Free museums

The city has 6 municipal museums, treasures that are freely accessible all year round and for everyone.
You’ll discover archaeological collections, a natural history museum, a fine arts museum, a museum of Provencal culture and the latest addition, a unique museum housed in the city’s former public baths: the Pommer baths museum.

The icing on the cake is the Musée du Petit Palais – Louvre in Avignon, which houses the Louvre’s largest repository in the region and is also completely free to visit.

So there’s nothing to stop you giving it a go!

These museums are packed with cultural activities, including free tours and workshops for children!

Culture

Are you a regular visitor to Avignon?
There are plenty of temporary exhibitions to satisfy those with an insatiable appetite for culture, particularly through the Quartet + programme.

Do you love culture but you’re not a museum-goer?
Avignon, the grande dame of live theatre, is packed with cultural events with free admission. Free events are on offer at some of Avignon’s most famous cultural venues: Collection Lambert, Maison jean Vilar

There are also free residency outings in various theatres, including La Factory and the Théâtre des Doms.

Lunch break

For lunch, you can enjoy your picnic in the shade of a tree in one of the many public gardens or on the Ile de la Barthelasse with its breathtaking views over the old town!

Another ideal place to grab a bite to eat is the garden of the Ceccano library, and keep an eye on its calendar for lunchtime sandwiches: a reading or a lunchtime concert.

In Avignon, art is open to everyone, all year round! And if you want to discover the Palais des Papes and the Pont d’Avignon, you can always visit them free of charge during the Heritage Days, or on Sundays… by becoming an Avignon resident 😊
