There are several artists comprising 'Jacno': the typographer, the lover of beautiful letters, the illustrator of alphabets which led to fame for magazine advertisements and film and theatre programmes; the poster artist, who created the visual image of the Théâtre National Populaire and the three keys of the Festival d’Avignon; the designer, who drew the famous winged helmet on the pack of Gauloise cigarettes and who worked for other prestigious brands such as Révillon and Guerlain; the graphic artist, desginer of the layout of L’Observateur, France soir, of the banner headline of the reviews Ici Paris, Radar and Détective, and book covers for famous publishing houses.
For the presentation in Villeurbanne of the exhibition “Signé Jacno” in partnership with the Jean Vilar association, the Théâtre National Populaire, under the artistic direction of Philippe Delangle has proposed to 20 European designers the opportunity to create a poster in resonance with Marcel Jacno's inimitable work. The proposal defined a strict set of specs and led to twenty original posters, 120 × 175 cm format, silk-screened in three specific colors. Seven French art schools responded to this opportunity.
A magnificent experience of transmission and creation displayed in the hall of the Maison Jean Vilar in two successive displays of ten original posters. A true opportunity for visitors to discover Jacno's personal grammar and the creativity of today's great graphic artists.
