The château in Sorgues was their summer residence. It was built in 1700 and was later extended, the stand of plane trees (unique in France) was planted in 1816 by General de Cessac and his spouse, Sibylle de Brantes, the ancestor of the current owners. Sibylle de Brantes also planted the magnificent magnolia grandiflora, a masterful tree in this garden, near three mirror-pools desigined by the Danish landscape artist Mogens Tvede. The Sorgue river, beloved to Petrarch, flows through these pools. Around the pools are beautiful viburnum, boxwood and cypress, and rows of century-old Lagerstroeimia . The 200-year old magnolia, one of the oldest in Europe (200 years old) stands here. This garden is of Tuscan inspiration, the rhythm is set by the flowering of the camelias, the peonies, the star-sprinkled rosebushes. The many shades of green and white are a beautiful contrast with the wild prairie and the educational vegetable garden.
For over 20 years, the garden has welcomed school groups and led workshops for all ages, and hosts artists in residence.
As of the month of April, we can create special events in resonance with the garden flowers. Conferences, concerts, tea samplings and wine tastings, meals featuring Provençal specialties, apéritifs under our mulberry trees, floral workshops with Blandine Viry "Atouts Fleurs".
Come explore this place of creation, innovation, exchange, culture, and sharing in a friendly atmosphere.
