The Festival d'Avignon means 78 years of universal values at the service of the cultural riches in contemporary creation. 78 years of perspective connecting Art and social realities, 78 years of political and aesthetic choices that have witnessed the greatest changes in living theatre, and that reflect the diversity and complexity of the world.

The Honour Courtyard at the Palace of the Popes, the heart of the Avignon Festival, is UNESCO World Heritage. The Festival also plays out in over s de 30 venues in and around the City of Avignon. In historical buildings, gymnasiums and cloisters, chapels and gardens, quarries and churches, the Festival welcomes more than 120,000 theatre-goers to over 400 performances (theatre, debate, meetings, readings, screenings... ).

Stand as the international focus of new theatrical creation, the harmonious combination of memory, history, heritage and the future, experimentation; emphasize regional involvement, place ecology as a priority, ensure accessibility to every walk of society, these and others are among the priorities of the new director Tiago Rodrigues, at the helm of the Festival since September 2022.

The first new venue specially designed for the Festival, la FabricA, was inaugurated in 2013. A venue for artists in residence throughout the year, a performance venue throughout the festival with a stage with the same dimensions as the Honour Courtyard, the FabricA intensifies the work of awareness-raising on the subject of live theatre that the Festival emphasizes with every type of audience.
