"Louis Vierne was born 8 October 1870.To celebrate the 150th anniversary of his birth, we pay tribute and play all six of his Symphonies for organ in six different concerts played on the organis in the Collegiate churches of Saint-Agricol and Saint-Didier.
The six Symphonies were composed between 1899 and 1930 for the legendary Cavaillé-Coll organ at Notre-Dame de Paris where the composer was appointed in 1900. The symphonies have a deeply romantiic inspiration. "This music has been and remains lyrical - it speaks the language of the heart. (B.Gavoty)
Vierne's life was a series of personal deceptions, struggles, sorrow and serious health issues, yet his work is imbued with incomparable power. It reflects not only the private life of the composer, it is also the mirror of a troubled society undergoing major change. As a prelude to each of the concerts, different players will give a presentation of each symphony.
